Well I thought I may as well throw my hat into the ring on this subject.
Since The Sandy Hook Massacre the issue of firearms has once again taken center stage with some hoping it would help led to stricter gun laws.
Sorry for my cynical view but I doubt much will change, the reactions to Columbine and Virginia Tech weren't much different.
But this isn't the main point of this post, My main point is problem I have with NRA idiots.

I personally don't mind the ownership of firearm but I also think there should be strong regulation in reguards to them ie; training in use and
storage, type of firearm a person can own etc.

Having said that I have to say that I cannot find it in me to agree with the US gun rights lobby, they have proven themselves dogmaticlly unwilling to agree to any firearm regulation no matter it's form, or even to the idea that Ameirca has a prolem when it comes to guns.  They make the 'Free Tibet' movement look reasonably.
I've had the misfortune to argue with gun nuts on a number of occasion and they refuse to listen to any point, I once pointed out in the year 1973 at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland there were around 250 murders in Belfast while in Detroit in the same year there were over 700 murders. The guy's response was to brush this off and say that Detroit hads a higher population than Belfast, so the fact that there was a three way hit and run guerrilla war in Northern Ireland at the time means nothing to these people.
Along with this they ignore the fact that most people aren't shot by criminals, most people are shot by family members or friends during domestic incidents or most criminals who use guns steal them from the homes of people who buy them legally.
They also bring up that Switzerland has a high level of gun ownership but low crime, while this mostly true, they overlook the fact that Switzerland has conscription so people have military training, psychological evaluations etc

I may or many not add to this later for now leave your opinion in the comment section.

We'll fix this somehow. I just wish we didn't have people who, like the semi-fictional Founders in Bioshock Infinite, take the words of the Founding Fathers as gospel and law! Yes, guns should be legal, but within reason! There's no reason to have assault rifles, heavy machine guns, armor piercing bullets, or tanks (an NRA member told me with a straight face that's what they want, not the tanks, but all the other stuff).

I'm comforted that we always end up doing the right thing, even if we have to do everything else.

Gun ownership ought to be a privilege, as it is in nearly every other civilized country in the world.

The main problem with regulations are the "NRA Idiots". Anytime the president wishes to make any sort of the regulation, these hillbillys immediately take up arms and protest it.

Guns are not a bad thing. As a matter of fact I still keep my grandfather's colt revolver in my bedside drawer. I agree with the idea of restricting gun rights to certain people. In order to get a firearm registration, you should have to take an IQ and psychological test, attend shooting lessons, and keep your criminal record clean. Also, fully automatic and high caliber firearms should be restricted to military personnel, either veterans or enlisted soldiers.

i like guns, but i believe in very strong regulation, only for emergency. citizens dont need a gun, only use if to kill or hurt some thing or some body.

Also overlooks the fact that Switzerland doesn't have a standing army, instead having a militia. America hasn't had a "Well-Regulated Milita" for over a century, as we have a standing army.

I am sorry, bu I do not speak english.

Plus the fact some of the pro gun people I've seen claim to own 6 to 50 firearms, including military grade ones. Why the hell does someone need that many guns to begin with?

Being a US citizen, I often think people need a level of military training, but then you have some people saying conscription is wrong and immoral, and perhaps so with our penchant for military adventurism, but at the same time as the statistics show in Switzerland, their methods help. So I figure that if we can reign in our zeal when it comes to being a powerful nation then we ought to bring conscription back.
