The planet's resources are finite, the greed of capitalism is limitless, something's gotta give

Yeah, the stupidity of people like you that ignores the fact we've always found ways to make the planet's resources last longer while using less of them.

Hey assclown, something's going to give sooner or later. Simply saying that we've always found ways to stretch our resources is not a wise attitude to have in times of record climate change, record hurricanes and tornadoes and the sudden irregularity of the monsoon season.

Only the most short sighted person would think that we can continue the rapacious pace of development we're going at now.

Actually, it's that plus the fact we've been hearing "*Insert catastrophic disaster* is going to happen by *insert time* if we don't *insert action* (usually involves giving government more control over our lives)" for decades. According to half of them, we should've experienced peak oil, run out of food because of overpopulation, frozen to death from a new ice age, or any number of a thousand things that haven't happened even though we've not stopped what we were told would cause them or done what was allegedly meant to prevent them. And not only has the world not ended, but man's standard of living has gone to levels that were unheard of barely fifty years ago and the work he must do to reach those levels has eased immensely (If you were a farmer, what would you rather have? A "clean" mule and a plow or an army of "dirty" diesel-powered combines and tractors? Why don't we ask people living in countries where the former is still all they have?)

And as far as this "record *insert something*" business...exactly how long has man been on the planet, exactly how long has he been able to track weather patterns, and exactly how often has he been right about such things? I'm sorry, but considering the earth has been around millions of years, and humanity hasn't been around for even half that time, I take these "this has never happened before" with a very large grain of salt. Not to mention the fact that such things aren't as dangerous nowadays as they were decades ago because of our improved technology.

Hey buddy, have you seen the droughts in the United States? How many states are experiencing the highest recorded summer heat and how many states are now considered danger zones due to fires and drought and lack of normally seasonal rain?

And we haven't run out of food yet, but that's depending on who you ask. The Sahara desert is expanding, billions never get enough to eat per day, people regularly die of famine and dysentery. The world is not a happy place in many areas and manmade activity is actually making it worse.

The planet has been around for billions of years, and there have been disasters and mass extinctions but never a full industrial civilization like we have now, and nothing lasts forever and you've got a very short sighted attitude.

Science has proven these things time and time again, your opinion does not change the facts and your ignorance is no protection from global warming.

And the government forbidding us from altering wetlands and other bodies of water to help us irrigate such places in the name of environmentalism isn't helping.

Why don't you compare the standard of living in non-industrialized Africa to industrialized America before you blame famine and disease on industrialization.

"The planet has been around for billions of years, and there have been disasters and mass extinctions but never a full industrial civilization like we have now, and nothing lasts forever and you've got a very short sighted attitude."

There's also never been a species that can alter the environment to suit its needs and build technology to help mitigate natural disasters until man either. And again, compare the effects of natural disasters in non-industrialized nations to industrialized nations before you blame industry.

"Science has proven these things time and time again, your opinion does not change the facts and your ignorance is no protection from global warming."

There are also scientists out there who say global warming isn't the world-ending disaster people claim it is and back it up, which is why I'm not jumping on the "we're doomed if we don't do this this and that" bandwagon.

I don't know, when fairy tales and right wing propaganda are more important than facts and reality, I guess it's like talking to a wall.

All you've proven so far is your own ignorance. how you can support a system whose fundamental cornerstone is greed and blind, irrational self interest is beyond me

This is coming from someone who just dismisses what I say to back up my views, while offering nothing in rebuttal except the usual "If you don't believe in global warming, you're a fool".

Can you tell me the standard of living in a non-industrialized African village is better than the standard of living in an industrialized American city?

Can you tell me that industrialization hasn't negated the effects of natural disasters over the years to the point of being almost harmless?

Can you tell me the jury isn't still out on whether global warming is a threat to the planet or whether mankind's industrial living is the sole cause of it?

Grow a pair and debate, chum. It's really not that hard...unless you already know you're beaten.
