I never understood why people think war is good for the economy. All it does is kill off some of the more industrious workers, and drag the rest into some pointless conflict. Bad for you, bad for me, bad for the economy.
How is left-wing anti-communist an oxymoron? I support equality, but disavow communist economic structures. I don't think a control economy benefits anyone. and George Orwell was an anti-communist and so was Bayard Rustin, Irving Howe and Max Shachtman.
He was very, very critical of any and all communist movements he came across, the man was left wing to be certain, but he was also opposed to communism, ergo, anti-communist.
You still can't be "Anti-Communist" without coming off as rather right-wing because you have to remember during the course of history of how the US and their allies have used Al-Qaeda to hurt the Soviet Union and Socialist Afghanistan.
To call yourself "Left-Wing" and "Anti-Communist" is rather very liberal.
But the war profiteers make huge amounts on armaments, supplies, farms and mining companies make more money due to the supply and demand curve. There's quite a few ways people make profits off wars.
On an unrelated note "Left-Wing Anti-Communist" is an oxymoron.
"I am not a Marxist, but I am not anti-Marxist. I am not communist, but I am not anti-communist."
- Hugo Chavez
I'm not sure where you got the idea that George Orwell was "anti-Communist" I mean he wasn't exactly Communist though.
